Fairtrade Breakfast

On Wednesday 9th March our Fairtrade group organised a Fairtrade Breakfast to raise money. The whole school, with help from the parents attending raise a lot of money for Fairtrade. Mrs Hunter organised the event and the Fairtrade team members led the Assembly. P4 had created their own Fairtrade song and it was very funny!

Each class participated in a competition to design a tea pot, mug or cup and we used these to decorate the assembly hall.

We will add photos very soon!

Fair Trade Assembly Fundraiser

On Friday 6th March, pupils, parents and staff combined to raise a whopping £270.90 for Fair trade. Pupils enjoyed a fun-packed assembly, with special poems, songs and competitions to celebrate Fair Trade Fortnight, while parents and grandparents relaxed with a cup of Fairtrade tea or coffee, and sampled some delicious home-baking. Many thanks to everyone who came along and participated in such a good cause, and a special thank-you to all the hard-working Fair Trade Group members.

Waste week winners!

The St Andrew’s  Ec0-Committe has been working really hard to spread a powerful environmental message to all pupils and parents about the need to reduce waster and increase recycling efforts to protect our planet. Our Eco-Warriors worked hard all week from 24th to 28th March, cleaning up litter, checking waste levels in classrooms (paper wastage and electricity use), organising a ‘bling-a-bottle’ competition, collecting unwanted clothing and generally setting the world to rights!

Pupils really enjoyed designing a funky new way to recycle plastic bottles, with lots of children decorating bottles in line with Easter themes, or with a view to ‘greener’ ideas. We had a special school assembly on the Friday, where individual class winners were named and received prizes for their efforts. There was also a special prize for the whole school winner, Abbi (P7), who made a fantastic bird feeder – showing that the best re-cycling efforts are those items which have a real and useful purpose. Well done to everyone in school for their efforts!

Cool Creatures

ChameleonAs part of our Eco Week Calum from Cool Creatures brought in some of his animals for us to learn about.  We had great fun learning lots of new facts and having a handling session with the animals.  Everyone from Nursery to Primary 7 and the staff participated, some more than others!
